linguistics and skill sets
I’ve been debating about this for a couple of weeks now. Which is better: to be fluent in one language and know a bit of a foreign language or to know 2 languages not fluently? I ask because this positioning ascertains what "value", preconceived and/or actual, the seniors here think of an individual.
I personally hope and think if one has mastered their mother tongue being English or Korean, it is a good thing. Now, if an individual has had the opportunity to learn more than one language yet is unable to say he or she can command atleast one of them…what does that say of the individual? How do you consider a person who is not native to any language?
This unintentionally brings up another issue of one’s skill sets. This is an age-old question, is it better to be a specialist or generalist?
