Kumho’s aromatic tires

January 23rd, 2007 | J Lee | Marketing, Cars

OMG. Korea’s Kumho Tires announced they have developed the world’s first Scented_tire_070116_0807aromatic tire for the US market.

According to Rick Brennan, Brand Director for KUMHO, the company is selling the DX aroma tire to help build brand awareness and highlight KUMHO’s tire technology. The tire is targeted at female consumers who drive such sedans as the Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Subaru Outback, Chrysler Sebring and Ford Taurus.

I’m sure they’re really proud of this hit-miss product (go ahead and give yourselves a pat on the back, you’ve surely earned it). Does the company call for drivers to burn rubber to unleash the full jasmine or lavender scent? More importantly how can the drivers/passengers actually benefit from scented tires? Is the scent vacuumed into the passenger cabin (this is not the case for convertibles)?

Its uncertain how the aromatic scent will benefit the driving experience, improve safety, etc. With the amount of vehicular smog and dirty air in markets like LA, just how many passenger-class vehicles outfitted with these tires are needed to overcome this? And does Kumho offer a chart that depicts the various driving styles and recommendations for the optimum scent release (i.e., user experience)?

Since Kumho owns Asiana Airlines, I’m sure they can outfit their jets with these specially formulated tires. Possibly to boost the airliner’s baggage handlers’ morales and decrease stress levels.
