Naver Weather: a location-based service or is it spying?
I used Naver Weather (네이버 날씨) for the first time. CNN Weather was giving implausible local conditions with what I was seeing out my window. So I wanted to confirm.
The site loaded and my eyes drifted to the local conditions and forecasts of my neighborhood (구), right down to my block area (동).
Not quite sure what to make of this beyond the obvious. As I did not log-on nor provide personal information/sign up on EULA how does Naver provide the local weather conditions for my locale? Did I miss a disclaimer, or is the ridiculously small text hidden somewhere on the already cluttered page? What is Naver’s privacy policy, or they do even have one?
As plainly seen, and whether we like it or not, Naver is tracking IP addresses for giving location-based services without user consent. Is there a good reason for all of this?
