Professional group blog

April 30th, 2005 | J Lee | The Web

So I tried a hand in trying to persuade my professional network group to create a TypePad blog instead of a homepage. The homepage idea has been on the table since last summer. I guess I’m impatient with the lack of interest and progress, but more so because it was a task (building a homepage or blog) I had agreed to assist. And the lack of motivation of others is very stressful.

One of my points favoring a blog over a homepage is this: the technical aspects of launching and maintaining a blog are surprisingly effortless.

The group is growing steadily and expanding outwards, and may incur growth and quality problems such as
breakdown in communications or synergy between its members and
locations. A blog allows bilateral communication between all members.

When I launched this blog last week, it took all 5 minutes (from filling out account info, and choosing the template and contents) to get a visual confirmation that my blog existed at this URL. And posting on a daily basis has been a breeze and a thrill. I’m not a fan of creating/maintaining websites (since I’m not a web designer), however I’m more than willing to maintain a blog.
