‘05 Year End Party

Our Firm held a Christmas party last night. It was the first time that WTB (World Technology Business) and WCB (World Commercial Business) jointly held one together in Seoul.
The WTB folks work on the US military bases scattered across the Korean peninsula, with the US Government as clients. Apparently the two sides will be no more, as the One Firm Evolution is supposedly to make the Firm one again.

So anyway, it was great to meet our brothers and sisters on the public sector side. It was sweeter that I could finally relate to people of our experiences working and living in Korea. It was great to hang out with fellow Americans once again. I hope to have more future contact with them in an informal or official setting.

Tuesday ramblings

Found this great post on Slacker Manager. I prefer the zoned out Slack Jaw technique myself.

The PSP is a great addition to my life. I tend to play in the ambigious moments before bedtime in my new studio apartment because 1) I still do not have curtains/blinds to shield me from my air guitar sessions, and 2) lack of cable TV. At my old abode, I had BBC and the almighty Discovery Channel airing my faves including Top Gear and Orange County Choppers, respectively. The selection of cable channels here is not all that thrilling, I do get my ESPN back tho if I ever choose to fork out the 40+ clams. At the new place it costs the equivalent of USD $40 for a guy to plug a wire into the TV and wall. I’m sure the cable TV guy has perfected his mechanics with limited motion.

Another complaint is the building directly across from me. Its top 3 floors is what appears to be  a car insurance call center. This means people work constantly working whatever number of shifts. When I first moved in, I marveled at their commitment of working these long hours. Now that I know what this place is, it only makes depressed for me to look out the window. I will be getting blinds tonight to ensure whatever sanity I have left.

Lastly, moving from the niceties of the burbs into the city can be a good thing especially the commutes to the office or client work sites. However, the homeless or random drunk that is curled over the entrance of the building doesn’t do much for "home, sweet home."

I like the new place because it’s BRAND NEW. It has high ceilings which make for an airy atmosphere and gives the false sense of a bigger apartment. And atleast I know who to call when I get car insurance.

PSP

I got a new PSP the other night, it’s great for the trips to the Library or to immerse myself into hours of mindless play when I should be getting sleep. I’ll write later when something interesting happens.

Audiopad

Yes, I know I may sound bitter towards my job. But one thing I can objectively say is, if left uncontrolled the Job can take away one’s interest and motivation in learning/keeping up with all the things that evolve in the world. That sounds like a oxymoron with this profession. I don’t get it myself but it happens and I have paid for it dearly.  Now, I am determined in rediscovering my drive to fulfill my intellectual curiousity. And I hope to see progress in this blog.

To begin with, I found something really remarkable through random blog and blogs I read last night. From the world of the Minority Report, an interactive interface to create music. The Audiopad was created by James Patten. Wow…

Balloons

The building that we are in had a grand opening yesterday. The release of hundreds of white balloons  in the backdrop of a snowy city landscape made it surreal, Fargo-esque. For any of those other big celebrations that happen worldwide, where balloons are served to the wind god, what happens to them?
